My Down Syndrome child was moved there in third grade. My experience comes from grades 3-5. What made the LFI different was Dr. Taylor and Gabby’s commitment to academic excellence and to the Buddy Program they have. I can not highly recommend this dynamic duo enough! They were on top of any issues, aware of the needs of the students and committed to seeing them excel academically, communicated regularly, sent home daily easily completed HW, made sure the child was matched with an appropriate buddy who played with and helped them to and from class, in the hallways, lunch and to and from the regular classrooms.

My son attended Stedwick for K-3rd grade. Beginning in 2nd grade after he was diagnosed with ADHD, he had a 504 plan. It was like pulling teeth to get a meeting with the counselor to discuss the 504. His 2nd grade teacher was great and actually followed the plan. His 3rd grade teacher was about to retire and didn’t bother trying to implement the 504, or even let us know when he wasn’t completing classwork (“Can’t send it home, because then it can’t be graded.”) The counselor and administration were useless in trying to get anything done. They do seem to put a lot of resources into ESOL and students with more severe special needs than my son who “only” has ADHD, but kids like mine seem to fall through the cracks. We moved so my younger child won’t have to deal with Stedwick.
